Class Descriptions 2 continued…

We have covered the Conditioning, Step and Strength training classes so far , now moving onto;

Bootcamp Classes are wonderfully effective interval styled training classes.  We make use of all the traditional equipment such as bars and steps but also circuit and personal training equipment such as ropes and hurdles.These style of classes are tremendously effective but intense and beginners will need to start off carefully.

Class set up could be that if a circuit for example, stations which could be an upper body exercise, followed by a lower body exercise followed by a cardio exercise.  The circuit can be timed ( perhaps a minute on a station ) or can be set by repetition .  In this way , the stronger participants would get through the circuit a few times , while the newer participants might be able to only get through it once.  In this way challenging each client , no matter what their fitness level.

These classes may also be done in individual circuits for clients who prefer so and also depending on space available.It is important to be able to adjust each exercise according to member needs which means , as the instructor , we need to move around and assist and motivate which means not being able to participate but only demonstrate when necessary.

Water Fitness Classes are a wonderful way to increase fitness with little or no risk of injury.  Traditionally, these classes have been associated with the elderly but anyone who had attended a few of these will realize what an intense workout it actually is.
Again, it can be adjusted to all level a of fitness and can also be an option for non swimmers and those with a fear for water.Theses classes are 45 minutes long and include strength, power, cardio , endurance and even flexibility elements.

Our classes include varied movements between low, rebound and suspended exercises as well as traveling movements making use of the properties of water to increase the intensity.As an instructor, it is important to note that the pool is a high risk area and that we often have clients referred to us that have had injuries , that are pregnant or suffering from heart and lung disease. We need to stay attentive throughout the class.

Stretch classes are very popular for the elderly, the newer participants as well as athletes. There are different styles of stretch such as static, dynamic and even ballistic but is very specific to the needs of our clients .  In main stream classes, we looking at dynamic with perhaps a touch of toning in between.Often the clients that attend have over trained or have tight shoulders and back ( more often than not). If we use static stretches, they will be for around 30 – 40 seconds to release the muscle than to actually improve flexibility.
Our newer clients are often directed to these classes to get accustomed to group exercise in general.

We do make use of some background music to help clients to relax and focus on their breathing.
